Supersized Chain Roller Blinds

The Premium XL Roller Blind is the type of blind you need if you have a very wide window or a very large drop – or both!

Our Premium XL roller blinds can go to a width of 4700mm (4.7m) with a drop of 2150mm (2.15m). Naturally, as the width of the blind is reduced, we’re able to increase the drop, so we can manufacture this blind to a drop of 5750mm (5.7m) if the width is 1700mm (1.7m) or less. See the table below to see the relationship between width and drop.

Having seen the demand for our existing wide blinds offering steadily increase since it was launched, we realised there is a real need for roller blinds that go even further. However, it isn’t simply a case of adding a few more measurements to the website on an existing range. You see, as roller blinds get wider, the componentry needed to support the weight of the blind needs to get larger too. This means there’s no bowing of the barrel (the part the fabric is wrapped around), which creates ripples in the fabric and a not-so-welcoming grin-shaped bend in the barrel at the top of the window. A few things need to be ‘beefed up’ to be able to safely handle those larger sizes.

Our standard roller blinds start with a barrel that has a diameter of 32mm and goes up to 45mm as they get larger. With our Premium XL roller blind, our barrels start at 53mm in diameter and go up to 70mm. It is also worth noting at this point that having a different sized barrel compared to our standard roller blind means that the Premium XL blind will look larger than standard roller blind if fitted next to each other, so please bear this in mind if you have multiple windows in the same room.

Likewise, the chain mechanism has been swapped out to include a new mechanism that can handle the increased weight from all the fabric it needs to hold in place. The chain mechanism used on our Premium XL Roller Blinds has a geared ratio of 1:4. This means that for every one revolution of the chain, the barrel turns four times.

Now, you may think having a geared mechanism is a touch excessive but take a second to consider the time and energy needed to raise and lower a roller blind with a drop of 5.7m on a 1:1 ratioed mechanism at least twice a day. It is safe to say that the task may soon start to wear thin.

Heading to the top of the blind you’ll find our brackets. These serve the purpose of holding the blind in place. The brackets are larger than the brackets used on a standard roller blind and come in one size. Who knew blinds could be so technical?!

We get asked by a lot of people for the specifications of the brackets, but the below information should make it easy for you to find for yourself the dimensions of the brackets of the Premium XL roller blind you wish to order.

The reason we offer ‘standard’ window sizes on our Premium XL roller blinds is that you may prefer blinds that match throughout the home but not every window is super-wide, so this way you are able to get your large blinds and standard size blinds that neatly match each other.

Go Wide... And Electric!

We have the ability to make mains operated roller blinds that can go to the same wider sizes as our chain operated roller blinds. Our XL Mains Electric Roller Blinds can be wired into the mains or you can fit a 3-pin plug (not included), which means you can fit it at great heights and not worry about having to try to charge it on a regular basis. These electric blinds can go up to 4.7m with a drop of 2.15m, or a drop of 5.75m with a width of 1.85m.
