Thermal Curtains

Our made to measure curtains are ideal for providing additional insulation to your home’s windows, helping to reduce heating costs during the Winter months and minimise cooling costs during the Summer months.
To ensure that your made to measure curtains can provide the best levels of thermal insulation, select the ‘Blackout Lining’ option when ordering. The blackout lining used will increase the thickness of the fabric, boosting the curtain’s insulative powers.

What are the benefits of Thermal Curtains?

Much like Thermal Blinds our made to measure Thermal Curtains are a great way to insulate the windows in your home to prevent cold air flooding your home during the Winter and helping to keep warm air out during the Summer. This means that when using Thermal Curtains during the Winter, your heating bills should be lower and in the Summer your electricity bills should be lower, as you don’t need to power cooling fans all day long.

How do Thermal Curtains work?

A Thermal curtain requires no extra work from you for it to improve your home’s thermal efficiency, as that is simply in the nature of the curtain. On a basic level, having anything over your window will improve the insulation of the room as it creates a barrier, however our Thermal Curtains (with blackout lining) are much thicker than your run-of-the-mill curtains, which provides a greater level of insulation that ensures the amount of air moving from the room to the glass and vice-versa is kept to a minimum. By breaking up this convection current, the warmth stays in the room and the cold stays close to the glass.

Measuring and Installing Thermal Curtains

Measuring for your new made to measure Thermal Curtains is simple and easy. If you have an existing curtain pole or track, just measure the width, excluding the finials. If you have not got a track or pole, measure the width of the window space you want to add insulation onto and then add 30cm to the width to ensure there are 15cm either side of the window, to give you some overlap. For the drop, measure you want the curtain to end 1.5cm above the floor, 15cm below the windowsill or 2-3cm above a radiator or 1.5cm above a windowsill.
Every pair of our Thermal Curtains will come with simple and easy to follow instructions to help you prepare them for the window, such as gathering the pleat, however it is incredibly simple and no different in method to any other way of fitting standard curtains.
