How to Install a Real Wood Venetian Blind

  • Step 1

Once you’ve unpacked the blind put it up against the window.
Put the spirit level on top of the blind and… you guessed it: make sure it’s level. This is particularly important if it’s going outside a recess where it is hard to gauge a straight line up close. Nobody wants a wonky blind.
At this moment it would be a good idea to utilise those extra pair of hands to help hold up the blind if it is quite long. Mark the end of the blind on the wall with a pencil. If you haven’t got a pal who can help, measure the blind on the floor and put the tape measure against the wall and mark it.

    Step 2

    Inspire Bracket

Grab the brackets and give them a quick once over: one is made to go on the left and one is made to go on the right, so figure out which is which. Make sure the doors open out into the room.
Fix the brackets in place using pencil markings for guidance. Screw the bracket to the wall using the appropriate screws in the right holes. Keep the doors of the brackets open.

You’ll notice that your blind comes with centre support brackets too. It’s up to you whether you want to use them, but they are recommended for supporting longer blinds.

    Step 3

Use the valance corner piece to attach the edges of the valance to the main length. Pop the valance clips onto the front of the headrail, using a minimum of two clips. Don’t worry about putting clips on the side of the blind, and again, depending on how snug the blind is within a recess, you may choose not to use the side valances. Finally, clip the front valance into the clips, bottom first.

    Step 4

Slide the headrail into the bracket (psst… make sure the blind is round the right way with the cords and wand facing you.)
Close the door on the bracket and make sure it is locked shut.

    Step 5

Find the child safety device supplied. It is very important that you fit the cleat at least 1.5m (60”) above the floor. Use this to keep excess cord out of reach of children. Also, don’t modify the breakaway device at the bottom of the cords as it is designed to breakaway if pressure is applied.

    • Position the cleat on the wall and mark with a pencil where the screw holes will be.
    • Drill guide holes where the pencil marks are. Then fix the cleat with screws.
    • Now you can tie back any loose ends and keep your home safe for children.
