Spare Your Neighbours' Blushes...

A bathroom blind needs to primarily provide you with privacy. You won’t often need a good night’s kip on the loo and you’re not really going to need too much of an interior design statement in there either. What you should expect from your blind is that it is waterproof, hygienic and a perfect privacy provider that looks great. Is that too much to ask?!

Do I need a bathroom blind?

A man looking sad in the shower in his bathroomEver had that nightmare where you walk out on to a stage and realise, to your horror and the crowd’s amusement, that you’re naked? It’s awkward, it’s socially unacceptable and well, you might put someone off their lunch.

Taking a shower near an un-shaded bathroom window can feel a little like that, even if the glass is frosted or high above any prying eyes.

A blind affords you with the sense of privacy as well as actual privacy. I mean, how else are you going to do your best Queen shower singalong if you’re feeling shy?

You also need to do your best to keep the room warm too otherwise it’ll be a rather rude start to your morning! Whatever you use to shade your window, it needs to keep the cold out and the heat in.

Can I use any blind in my bathroom?

A steamed up window in a bathroom with a person's blurry reflectionNo, you can’t go out and buy any old blind or curtain and put that up in your bathroom. You’re dealing with a predominately warm and damp environment and unless things are waterproof or at least quick drying, mould can quickly set in.

Think about it – have you ever seen a set of curtains in a bathroom? I haven’t and I’ve been using bathrooms my whole life.

Curtains and other fabrics absorb moisture and hold it in, barely drying and nurturing the onset of mould. Also, I imagine the fabric would become so heavy it’d begin to sag and you’d see the colours run.

This is why you should be using our filter for ‘moisture resistant’ on the left-hand side of our shopping pages. These blinds have been tested for colour fastness and their ability to dry quickly.

What’s the best bathroom blind?

Firstly, it makes sense to go for a water-resistant blind. You know this blind will hold up to whatever your bathroom throws at it. Some other fabrics may not be colour-fast or able to repel water as easily.

Bathroom blinds that are water resistant from DotcomBlinds can come in designs and colours, from ventian blinds to blackout roller blinds and dimout roller blinds. Keep your options open, browse your bathroom blind until your heart is content.

A metal venetian blind is also a viable option, especially because the slats are made from aluminium. Whether or not your blind will corrode when in contact with water depends on the pH of your water, and that’s quite a scientific undertaking. The general rule of thumb is it will most likely last a very long time. Our made to measure venetian blinds are very high quality.

Another option is the faux wooden venetian blind. Faux wood venetian blinds are different to aluminium venetian blinds and real wooden blinds because they look just like real wood blinds but are less susceptible to the damage from being exposed to water. They won't warp or get disfigured and are easy to adjust.

Available in a choice of colours, these blinds are a great and easy way to incorporate with your bathroom’s palette. Faux wood venetian blinds are easy to clean and immensely popular, so your throne room will look very stylish to whoever pays it a visit.

One area to consider if you’re particularly certain you want a totally waterproof bathroom blind is to consider PVC fabric.

PVC fabric is so resilient and easy to clean. It is waterproof and blackout. It is four-ply, meaning it is 75% PVC and 25% fibreglass. Not only does this make for a  super waterproof blind, but it also stops light from getting through. It easy to clean, is anti-bacterial (meaning it won't pass on any bacteria that lands on it) and is fire retardant (just in case you enjoy candles at bath time).

PVC will also help you keep the room’s warmth in when you’re in there, which is particularly useful on those chilly winter mornings! Likewise, the resilience of the fabric will mean it can handle the wild temperature changes that come with warm humid environments and open windows.

If you’re looking for blinds for your bathroom, remember, privacy and waterproof are the key features you need to look for. To shop by features, use the filter on the left-hand side of the shopping pages.
