Faux Wood & Real Wood Venetian Blinds

Here at DotcomBlinds, we offer two types of wooden venetian blinds, our Real Wood Venetian Blinds and our Faux Wood Venetian Blinds. Our real wood venetian blinds are made from real Basswood, whereas our faux wood venetian blinds are made from composite materials such as vinyl and PVC. Whilst the faux wood blinds obviously aren’t made from real wood, we add a finish to the faux wood blinds which makes them practically indistinguishable from their real wood counterparts, giving you the look of real wood blinds at a cheaper cost.

Advantages of Real Wood

There are many reasons why you may want to opt for a real wood venetian blind, over a faux wood one, but like most décor purchases, it comes down to a matter of budget and personal taste. Real wood venetian blinds have the advantage of adding extra window insulation compared to their faux wood cousins. They are lighter than faux wood blinds, but the trade off for this is that they can be a little more vulnerable to damage if they’re subjected to any heavy-handed use or humid environments. Real wood blinds are also a lot less susceptible to colour fading over time, meaning they can be in situ for a long time before the Sun’s rays start to fade their colour. And of course, being made from real wood as opposed to a composite material, real wood blinds have a slight advantage over faux wood blinds in the sustainability category.

Advantages of Faux Wood

Or you may be more of a faux wood person, in which case you’ll be pleased to find out that there are also a few areas in which faux wood blinds excel in. First of all, our faux wood venetian blinds are quite a bit more budget friendly than their real wood cousins, making faux wood blinds a great choice if you’re on a limited budget. Faux wood blinds are also a bit more versatile than real wood blinds, as faux wood venetian blinds can be used in areas that are prone to moisture such as: bathrooms and kitchens, which are both areas we don’t recommend using real wood blinds in. Another feather in the cap for faux wood blinds is the fact we have them available in more colour options than our real wood blinds.

Privacy Tape Options

For both our faux wood and real wood venetian blinds, we offer a range of fabric tapes which cover the gaps in the blind’s slats where the slat ladder runs. The tape will add an extra touch of class to your blinds and help accentuate the already stunning design of our wooden venetian blinds. These tapes also help secure your privacy, as they cover the only holes in the blinds, they help to provide an extra layer of privacy and keep even the nosiest of neighbours from peaking through your windows and into your home. Without privacy tape you’ll still have plenty of darkness but direct sunlight can creep through the small gaps, casting lines of light through the room. Either way, these blinds are absolutely perfect for all around the home.

50mm Slats vs 35mm Slats

When ordering your new real wood or faux wood venetian blinds, you will have the choice of how thick the individual slats of the blinds will be, with the option of using either a 50mm slat or a 35mm slat, giving you either a chunky modern look or a more classic slimline look. Of the slat size options, we find that most customers prefer a 50mm slat compared to a 35mm slat, that’s not to say that a 50mm slat is always superior, as on smaller blinds they can look a bit out of place. The slat size you choose should ultimately be a personal style choice, but as a general rule, the 50mm slat will work best on medium to large windows and the 35mm looks best in smaller windows.

Free Samples, Warranties & 5-Star Quality

Order your free samples from any real wood or faux wood blind on our website for added peace of mind. These samples will let you compare the blind to the style of your home and allow you time to view the blind and its finish before making any final choices. If you already know which slat size we’d recommend between three to five samples, if you’re looking to compare slat sizes and colours, we’d recommend ordering as many samples as you need as different slat sizes will have a different aesthetic impact in your home – so you’ll be sure to guarantee you get the exact look you want. We offer a 1 year warranty on our real wood venetian blinds and faux wood venetian blinds as we believe our products are built to last become a staple of your home. As you would have seen, there are plenty of 5-star reviews from satisfied customers who have purchased a range of real wood venetian blinds and faux wood venetian blinds from DotcomBlinds. We work hard to ensure we are cheaper than high street retailers - in most cases our prices are cheaper than high street options for blinds in the UK - so you know you're getting top quality blinds at the best price. Happy shopping!

Measuring For Your Wooden Venetian Blinds

Choosing the material and finish of your new wooden blinds is just one element of bringing your home to life and it is important to ensure you measure correctly for custom made real wood and faux wood venetian blinds as this will ensure you are happy with your look and the lifespan of the blind is maintained. To measure venetian blinds to fit a standard window recess simply measure the height and width of the window recess. When putting these measurements into the dimensions and before blinds are added to your basket, please select the recess option. We will do the rest of the calculations for you! If you want your venetian blind outside of the recess, please measure the appropriate length and add 70mm to the top and bottom and 50mm to the sides of your measurements to account for light leakage on windows. Further advice on measuring blinds for standard, bay and angled bay windows can be found in our measuring and installation guides.
