Update Your Home In Time For Autumn
Decor Trends for Autumn 2021
For many, Autumn is their favourite season - and with good reason too! It is a beautifully charismatic time of year, with an explosion of colour, dramatic skies and a welcomed relief from the summer heat and humidity - it is most certainly the season to capture the imagination.
After the year we’ve all had, autumn might be the wholesome soul food we all crave. So, now is the perfect time to prepare your home for autumn with these exciting ideas to bring you right up to date.
Rusticly Rusty
No autumn scene would be complete without a combination of warm oranges, reds, yellows and browns. Keep it natural and rustic, be inspired by nature and let it steer your colour palette. Whilst autumn is typically known as the season with a muted colour palette (and it is compared to spring and summer especially), don’t be afraid to draw attention to a particularly bold colour. Just use the darker tones sparingly - no one wants to make a room overly darker at a time when the nights are drawing in and the sun goes down increasingly earlier.
Popular Pastels
2021 has certainly seen pastel colours come to the fore and we love it. These softer colours will work fantastically alongside the stronger rusty colours typically associated with autumn. Calming pastel tones, like peach, will work fantastically with a crisp orange. A fun way to introduce these colours to your room is through a window blind which will take on a lovely glow in the autumn sunlight as it moves across the window, allowing light to pass through but not blocking it completely.
Throws & Blankets
Possibly a staple for every autumn decor list, but you can never have too many cosy throws and blankets scattered on chairs, sofas and beds for you to snuggle under on those chilly evenings. If you have guests visiting, consider a box or chest filled with blankets to encourage anyone who is feeling the cold to grab one, adding a nice aesthetic to your evening.
Vintage Pieces Rule
There is a unique character to a vintage item, be it a piece of furniture or a small trinket. With age and use you’ll find colouring and patina that simply sets it apart from modern, newer items. Get out to a boot sale, pick something that is quirky, full of whimsy, but still an extension of you and your interests.
Get in Touch With Nature
Leafy wreaths, pine cones and garlands give you the ability to add the feel of autumn to your home without needing to go overboard and redecorate the entire room. Likewise, subtle selections in furniture material can really help too. Choose wood, wicker, rattan, wool, linen and cotton to give the room an earthy, back to nature feel that doesn’t make your decor feel forced or over-the-top.
Create Peace
This year especially has highlighted the importance of utilising the space in your home to the full, and giving yourself some space to relax and recuperate is vital. Arrange your furniture in a corner to create a small reading nook. A comfy chair by a window, a lamp, perhaps a footrest, just anything to give you a comfortable 10-minute respite from the world.
As with all things to do with decorating your home, style it to your taste. Your home should be a reflection of you and what you like, so be bold and go forth, we hope you have been inspired by these useful ideas!
