What are PVC roller blinds?

Our PVC roller blinds are a blackout fabric that is made predominantly from polyvinyl chloride (PVC). One of the most used plastics in the world, it’s incredibly versatile. These child proof blinds are typically blackout blinds, meaning they can cast the room into total darkness. Our Toscana fabric is robust and waterproof, making it ideal for homes with kids.

PVC Blinds VS Muddy Hand Prints

I child with paint on handsKids get messy very easily, and it’s often not very long before that mess finds its way onto your furniture. The difference between frantic scrubbing with a stain remover and a relaxed wipe of a cloth is the type of fabric you choose for your blind. Being made from a non-porous material such as plastic, you are able to simply wipe the blind clean with a damp cloth.

PVC fabric blinds are water resistant too. A damp cloth to clean the blind is safe on this instance which is not always common advice for other blind fabrics on the market, which can see their colour run if they come into contact with moisture. Due to the PVC, this isn’t an issue, so you can install them in any room in the house and rest assured it’ll remain clean. With a 3 Year Warranty on all blinds, you really can have peace of mind.

PVC Blinds & Child Safety

Child safety is paramount for us at DotcomBlinds. Naturally, all blinds and particularly any chains or cords should be kept out of reach of children, and it is best to remove furniture that is near the window that small children could climb up on to reach the blind. However other measures are in place to restrict the ways a child can hurt themselves with a blind.

As with all of our roller blinds, chain operated PVC blinds come with child safety features as standard, designed at limiting the access children can have to the chain mechanism.

This comes in the form of a p-clip or chain tidy which holds the chain close to the wall and prevents entanglement, and this doesn’t extend to only children's blinds. We ensure all blinds are sent out with a child safety device. These are free of charge and very easy to fit.

Whilst this is an effective way to keep a child safe around your roller blinds, we have taken this concept further for added peace of mind.

Our Child Safe Plus options remove the need for a chain or any cords to operate the blind. Instead, choose from our three other mechanisms to raise and lower the roller blind.

A crank-operated roller blind is a popular option for householders with young children as the crank winds the blind up and down. The key part of this operating mechanism is that the crank can be unhooked and taken away from the blind completely, removing the temptation for small hands to play with the blind.

Finally, a battery-operated roller blind combines child safety with modern convenience. At the touch of a button, you can raise and lower your blind, stop it at various points on the window and hide the remote from your children. Read more about our electric blinds.

PVC Blinds VS Coughs and Colds

As cute as they look on the outside, children are actually the carriers of coughs and colds and minor immune-battering illnesses that will really ruin your week if you catch them. Now, we’re not suggesting a PVC blind will cure all of your ailments like some magic potion from a snake oil salesman, but it can certainly help as a line of defence.

Our blinds inhibit the growth of harmful bacteria and help to stop the spread of germs. Put simply, no bugs will survive on the surface of this blind, so encourage your kid to sneeze in the blind’s direction and not into their hand.

PVC Blinds VS Nap Time

Children need to take naps at various times of the day and you can’t always count on it being dark outside. Providing you with a respite as much as it does for the kids, a day time nap needs a blackout blind, keeping the sun out and the child undisturbed. The advantages of a good blackout blind are numerous (as detailed in this blog post), however, with children, it is especially beneficial.

PVC blinds are the ideal blackout blinds for children. Taking into the aforementioned points, this blackout blind also assists with nap time. Not only will light not be able to pass through the fabric, mainly because it is four layers thick, it also repels heat and UV rays from outside.

Aside from having the added benefit of preserving the room’s furniture from fading, Solar Reflectiveness keeps the room cool in the summer. Obviously, a fan and other measures are advisable, but it will act as a barrier, limiting the amount of heat transferred into the room.
