Pleated, Honeycomb & Venetian - What BiFold Blind Is Right For You?

*This blog was updated 02/04/2024 to reflect changes to the DotcomBlinds product range*

Here at DotcomBlinds, we like to think we know it all when it comes to blinds, after all our team spend all day, everyday knee deep in the world of blinds. Whether you need to know which way a roller blind should be, how to measure for your blinds or even how to clean your blinds, our team have the answers for you!

One type of blind that our team really love to talk about is our range of Prestige BiFold Door Blinds. These lovely blinds have been specially designed to fit in BiFold Doors and Conservatory windows, where traditional blinds often aren’t the best fit.

Rather than needing DIY knowledge to drill and screw blinds in place, our BiFold Door Blinds are installed with no drills, no screws and no DIY experience necessary! This is because our BiFold Door Blinds have a snazzy fitting system where the blind is held in the window frame with small brackets that fit under the window’s rubber gasket. This all means that our BiFold Door Blinds are incredibly easy to fit, even for a DIY novice!

But our BiFold Door Blinds are more than just a snazzy fitting system! We make them to the highest quality (like all of our blinds) and our Prestige BiFold Door Blinds come in a few different types, those being:

-Pleated BiFold Door Blinds

-Honeycomb BiFold Door Blinds

-Venetian BiFold Door Blinds

Each of the different types of BiFold Door Blinds have their own advantages, so in today’s blog we’ll be looking at the different types of BiFold Door Blinds that we offer and let you know where each type works best!

Pleated BiFold Door Blinds

Our Pleated BiFold Door Blinds are an excellent choice for a BiFold Door Blind, the blind itself is made up from a single layer of pleated fabric, which folds up on itself when the blinds are opened and stretches out when the blind is closed.

Our pleated blinds use a dimout fabric, which will let some light enter inside your home, but stop most of it from entering. This means that your home will still be somewhat well lit from the light outside, but help avoid the pitfalls of sunlight, like sun in your eyes or light flares on your TV screen, which makes this blind ideal for living rooms with BiFold doors.

Furthermore, our Pleated BiFold Door Blinds are available with either Single Control (where the blind fabric can be pulled down from the top of the window) or Dual Control (where the blind fabric can be moved up or down from either the top and bottom of the window, as well as allowing the blind fabric to freely float in the window)

Honeycomb BiFold Door Blinds

Our Honeycomb blinds are also an excellent choice, our honeycomb fabric is shaped like a long string of honeycomb, which opens up when the blind is closed and closes up when the blind is open. This honeycomb shape helps make the blind very good at insulating heat, whether it is keeping your home cool in the Summer or keeping your home warm in the winter.

We have dimout and blackout fabrics available for our honeycomb blinds: the dimout will let some light pass through, making it ideal for living rooms and kitchens with a BiFold door; whereas the blackout will not let any light pass through, which is better suited to bedrooms with a BiFold door.

Furthermore, our Honeycomb BiFold Door Blinds are available with either Single Control (where the blind fabric can be pulled down from the top of the window) or Dual Control (where the blind fabric can be moved up or down from either the top and bottom of the window, as well as allowing the blind fabric to freely float in the window)

Venetian BiFold Door Blinds

Finally, we have our Venetian BiFold Door Blinds, rather than fabric, these blinds are made like a venetian blind, with 25mm aluminium slats held in place with a corded ladder. With Venetian BiFold Door Blinds you have a greater degree of control over how much light enters the inside of your home; as you can open and close the blind, as well as rotate the slats to control how much light you let into your home.

These Venetian BiFold Door Blinds will work well in any bifold door in your home and provide excellent shading and light control. The only downside of these blinds is that they don’t have the same thermal properties as pleated and honeycomb blinds as the blind is made from small slats, rather than a solid piece of material.

All things considered, any of our BiFold Door Blinds will more than likely look amazing in your home and do an excellent job of keeping you and your home shaded. As all of our BiFold Door Blinds are very versatile, your choice more than anything should be motivated by personal preference and style to make sure you have the perfect blind for you!
