Which Blind Is Best For Me?

When you’re considering a blind for your home, you need to take into account one of the most important factors: its purpose. The reason for wanting a blind is a helpful way to narrow down the choice of literally hundreds of blinds, as well as lend additional benefits to your home. To help you along, here’s a few situations where finding the right blind for the right situation really matters and the features you need to to keep an eye out for.

Blinds for Nightshift Workers

A woman tries to sleep in bed during the dayA nightshift worker needs to catch up on sleep during the day. Can you imagine the turmoil of returning home after a long night at work, only to be greeted by bright sunlight streaming in through your bedroom window? Worse would be the rising temperatures in the summer, with the poor person trying to sleep in the midst of the hottest part of the day.

A blackout blind is ideal for night shift workers. It is totally opaque, meaning no light travels through the fabric. This also means that it helps to reflect the heat, preventing it entering the room. We also recommend opting for a lighter tone with a white back to the fabric to help reflect heat back out of the room.

Features to look out for: Blackout Blinds, Solar Reflective.

Blinds for Parents

In the past, blinds, particularly cord or chain operated blinds, had a bit of a bad reputation. Fortunately, safety measures have progressed since and now chains and cords are much safer: our blinds feature cleats as standard, with battery and crank options available. Keep an eye out for products marked ‘Child Safe Plus’; these are blinds that are above and beyond the Child Safe requirements, and pose no risk to children. There is no mechanism that is considered a potential danger.

Keep an eye out for our crank operated blinds, which are operated by turning a detachable crank handle. Our spring blinds are braked, which mean they rise slowly. Going the next step in child safe operation, some of our blinds are battery powered, meaning you can operate it with a touch of a button. A touch of luxury whilst being easy, safe and stylish. These options are found on the product page as an upgrade option.

One last thing a parent should look out for: anti-bacterial fabric. The fabric kills bacteria thanks to an antimicrobial formula that renders it Biosafe®, an international accreditation standard for the effective inhibition of infection. It won’t harbour germs and it will help to prevent any illnesses spreading around your home. It’s used in hospitals and health care centres across the country, so if it’s tough enough for those environments, it’ll happily take on whatever your kids throw at it.

Features to look out for: Crank Operated, Battery Operated, PVC Blackout, Anti-Bacterial.

Privacy in the Bathroom

A bath with towels in a bathroom with sunlight in the window.Picking a blind that is suited to a bathroom environment requires a little extra consideration and research. A thick fabric would absorb too much moisture and start to rot, and anything with too much metal could corrode.

A feature that helps this is Moisture Resistant. A moisture resistant fabric blind doesn’t absorb or retain water under normal circumstances, and so it will fight the build-up of bacteria or mould.
